Uzbekistan’s IMRI Joins Global Sustainable Development Network
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Research (IMRI) under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan has officially become a member of the International Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The network operates in partnership with the UN and is led by Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs.
Membership opens new opportunities for expanding cooperation with international experts and research centers, implementing modern analytical approaches, conducting joint research and pilot projects, and adapting global expertise in sustainable regional development to the specific conditions of Uzbekistan.
As part of this collaboration, plans include the integration of a leading national university, which will strengthen the link between scientific research, analytics, and the practical implementation of projects.
IMRI is already conducting systematic work in this direction: it has prepared national reviews on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2020 and 2023, a study on Uzbekistan's position in the global sustainable development system for 2025, and an analysis of international experience in regional SDG monitoring for 2026.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with the SDSN and the French Development Agency for a project to implement SDG monitoring at the regional level.
The SDSN bridges science, policy, and practice to promote the achievement of the SDGs at global, regional, and national levels. The network works in partnership with the UN, international financial institutions, governments, the academic community, and the private sector to promote science-based solutions and the exchange of best practices. It was established in 2012 at the initiative of former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Professor Jeffrey Sachs to advance integrated approaches to sustainable development through education, research, and international cooperation.
