Uzbekistan’s foreign trade rises to US$11.6 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January–February 2026, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) totaled US$11.6 billion, up US$767.4 million, or 7.1%, compared with the same period in 2025, according to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Of this total, exports reached US$3.55 billion, marking a 23.4% decrease compared with January–February 2025, while imports amounted to US$8.06 billion, up 29.8%, resulting in a negative trade balance of US$4.51 billion. The decline in exports was mainly due to a reduction in special exports. Excluding special exports, goods exports demonstrated steady growth, reaching US$2.10 billion, a 24.0% increase year-on-year.

Uzbekistan trades with over 160 countries, with the largest share of trade turnover accounted for by China (27.5%), Russia (18.3%), Kazakhstan (7.2%), Turkey (3.6%), and South Korea (2.7%).

In the export structure, goods accounted for 59.1% of total exports, including industrial products (18.1%), food and live animals (9.9%), chemicals and related products (9.6%), and various finished goods (8.5%). Major export partners for goods and services in January–February 2026 included Russia (19.2%), China (10.8%), Afghanistan (8.2%), France (6.0%), Kazakhstan (4.5%), Turkey (4.3%), Kyrgyzstan (2.9%), UAE (2.8%), and Tajikistan (2.7%), together representing over 60% of total exports.

Exports of fruits and vegetables totaled US$207.3 million, up 18.4% year-on-year, accounting for 5.8% of total exports. Textile exports amounted to US$466.6 million, or 13.2% of total exports, rising 15.5% from the same period in 2025, with finished textile products (52.2%) and yarn (30.3%) forming the main share.

Service exports reached US$1.45 billion, or 40.9% of total exports, up 25.1% year-on-year. Tourism accounted for 45.7% of service exports, transport services 36.7%, telecommunications and IT services 10.8%, and other business services 2.2%.

Imports for January–February 2026 totaled US$8.06 billion, with machinery and transport equipment comprising 36.1%, industrial goods 14.3%, and chemicals 11.9%. Compared with the same period in 2025, imports of goods increased by US$1.70 billion to US$7.21 billion, while service imports reached US$844.0 million, a 21.1% rise year-on-year.

Uzbekistan imported goods and services from more than 135 countries, with over 70% of imports coming from China (34.9%), Russia (17.9%), Kazakhstan (8.4%), South Korea (3.8%), Turkey (3.2%), Germany (2.3%), and India (2.2%). Service imports were dominated by tourism (53.5%), transport (19.1%), IT and telecommunications (10.4%), and other business services (9.3%).
