Uzbekistan’s Foreign Trade Exceeds US$37 Billion: Exports Up by 29%, Imports by 7%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January–June 2025, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) reached US$37.0 billion, marking an increase of US$5.123 billion, or 16.1%, compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Statistics Committee.
Exports amounted to US$16.8867 billion, showing a 29.1% rise year-on-year, while imports reached US$20.1332 billion, up 7.0%. As a result, the foreign trade balance ran a deficit of US$-3.2465 billion.
Uzbekistan maintained trade relations with 194 countries during the reporting period. The largest volumes of trade were registered with China (17.7%), Russia (16.3%), Kazakhstan (6.0%), Türkiye (3.6%), and the Republic of Korea (2.3%).
Goods accounted for 76.0% of total exports. Within this share, industrial goods made up 10.9%, food products and live animals 7.2%, chemicals and related products 5.8%, and various finished products 4.3%.
Uzbekistan’s main export partners for goods and services during January–June 2025 included Russia (12.1%), China (5.4%), Kazakhstan (4.0%), Afghanistan (3.6%), Türkiye (3.0%), France (2.9%), the United Arab Emirates (1.8%), the Kyrgyz Republic (1.6%), Tajikistan (1.4%), and Pakistan (1.0%). These countries collectively accounted for 36.8% of Uzbekistan’s total exports.
In the first half of 2025, Uzbekistan exported 1,078.1 thousand tonnes of fruit and vegetable products — a 7.8% or 78.4 thousand tonne increase compared to the same period in 2024. The export value of these products reached US$847.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 40.5%. Fruit and vegetable products made up 5.0% of total exports.
Textile exports amounted to US$1.2689 billion, accounting for 7.5% of total exports. This represents a 17.0% decrease compared to the first half of 2024. Within the textile export structure, finished textile goods constituted 47.8%, while yarn made up 32.2%.
The export of services in January–June 2025 reached US$4.0564 billion, making up 24.0% of total export volume. This marks a 29.0% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The main categories of service exports were travel (tourism) at 51.8%, transportation services at 33.7%, telecommunications, computer and information services at 8.0%, and other business services at 3.0%.
Within the “other services” category (3.5% of exports), insurance and pension services accounted for 1.1%, and financial services for 0.9%.
Total imports in January–June 2025 amounted to US$20.1332 billion, a 7.0% increase compared to the first half of 2024. Machinery and transport equipment made up the largest share of imports at 32.9%, followed by industrial goods at 16.0%, and chemicals and related products at 12.9%.
A breakdown of merchandise imports shows that the import of goods increased by US$835.4 million year-on-year to US$18.0361 billion, while service imports totaled US$2.0701 billion.
Overall, during the reporting period, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 160 countries. More than two-thirds of imports came from major trade partners, including China (28.1%), Russia (19.8%), Kazakhstan (7.6%), the Republic of Korea (4.1%), Türkiye (4.1%), Germany (2.9%), and India (2.7%).
Imports of services totaled US$2.0701 billion in January–June 2025, accounting for 10.3% of total imports and increasing by 30.0% year-on-year. The main components of service imports were travel (tourism) at 55.9%, transportation services at 19.4%, telecommunications, computer and information services at 9.0%, other business services at 5.7%, and other services at 10.0%.
