Uzbekistan’s fleet to add dozens of modern aircraft to attract tourists
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 9 April, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to significantly expand the country's fleet to increase tourist flows, according to the press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov.
The president stated that during his official visit to France in March, an agreement was reached to purchase 14 new Airbus aircraft and lease five more. Additionally, negotiations have begun with Boeing for the supply of 12 aircraft.
Mirziyoyev instructed ministries and agencies to make effective use of the new opportunities, to pre-define routes for new flights, and assess the potential tourist traffic.
Earlier, in January, Uzbekistan Airways' CEO Shukhrat Khudaikulov reported plans to purchase 14 long-haul Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners worth $2 billion, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032.
Additionally, it was noted that in November 2022, Uzbekistan signed agreements to purchase 17 Airbus and ATR aircraft worth nearly 800 million euros.
