Uzbekistan’s Fixed Internet Upload Speeds Overtake Download

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Fixed-line internet in Uzbekistan has reached a new stage of development, with average upload speeds surpassing download speeds for the first time, according to an analysis by nPerf.

In 2025, average upload speeds rose to 66.6 Mbps, exceeding average download speeds of 57.2 Mbps. Experts describe this phenomenon as a “traffic inversion,” highlighting significant progress in the country’s digital infrastructure.

Network performance indicators have improved markedly over the past four years. Download speeds nearly tripled, rising from 17.4 Mbps in 2021 to 57.2 Mbps in 2025, while upload speeds increased almost fivefold, from 14.2 Mbps to 66.6 Mbps. At the same time, network latency declined from 100.74 ms to 62.32 ms, and the performance index climbed from 43,500 to 70,200, significantly enhancing user experience.

The sharp improvement has been driven by large-scale modernization of telecommunications infrastructure. Market liberalization in 2020 boosted competition among operators and spurred investment in new technologies. Joint initiatives between the government and international vendors, including Huawei and ZTE, accelerated the rollout of fiber-optic networks, particularly in urban and suburban areas.

The shift toward higher upload speeds reflects changing digital behavior among users. Data exchange and content creation are becoming increasingly important, fueled by the growth of remote work, online services, and interactive applications.

Despite the progress, challenges remain, particularly in ensuring consistent service quality in rural areas and further reducing latency for latency-sensitive services such as video conferencing and online gaming.

Experts say that continued expansion of fixed broadband coverage, further development of fiber-optic technologies, and the adoption of advanced cable standards such as DOCSIS 3.1 will help Uzbekistan strengthen its position as one of Central Asia’s digital leaders, while unlocking new opportunities for the economy, education, and public services.
