Uzbekistan’s Economy Grew 7.2% in the First Half of 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January–June 2025, Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices reached 807,937.1 trillion soums, representing a 7.2 percent increase in real terms compared to the same period last year, according to the National Committee on Statistics.

The GDP deflator index relative to January–June 2024 prices stood at 112.4 percent. The highest deflator values were recorded in industry (113.8 percent) and other services (113.2 percent), while construction (106.0 percent) and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (108.2 percent) remained below the national average.

Economic growth was driven by the steady expansion of key sectors. Gross value added (GVA) generated by all industries accounted for 95.2 percent of total GDP, rising by 7.3 percent and contributing 7 percentage points to overall growth. Net taxes on products formed 4.8 percent of GDP, increasing by 6.5 percent and adding 0.2 percentage points.

The sectoral structure of GDP saw slight shifts. The share of services rose from 50.6 percent to 51.4 percent, while industry increased from 26.2 percent to 26.6 percent. Agriculture declined from 15.6 percent to 14.6 percent, and construction from 7.6 percent to 7.4 percent.

In industry, GVA totaled 204,613.3 billion soums, up 6.6 percent year-on-year. Growth was mainly supported by manufacturing (+7.1 percent) and water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services (+9.7 percent).

Construction generated 56,998.2 billion soums in GVA, 10.7 percent higher than in January–June 2024. Growth was recorded in building and structures construction (+3 percent), civil engineering (+25.7 percent), and specialized works (+49 percent).

The services sector contributed 394,870.4 billion soums in GVA, expanding by 8.2 percent. The strongest increases were observed in trade (+10.9 percent), accommodation and food services (+9.5 percent), transportation and storage (+11.3 percent), and information and communications (+21.9 percent).

Within trade, retail (excluding vehicles) accounted for 54.9 percent, wholesale trade (excluding vehicles) for 31.9 percent, and vehicle sales and repair for 13.2 percent. Transportation and storage, representing 5.7 percent of GDP, was dominated by road transport (56.1 percent), followed by pipeline transport (12.6 percent), rail (8.1 percent), air (8.3 percent), and auxiliary activities (14.9 percent).

GDP per capita reached 21.43 million soums in the first half of 2025, a 5.2 percent increase from the 18.13 million soums recorded in the same period last year.

The ICT sector accounted for 2.7 percent of the economy. Of this, programming and consulting services made up 43.8 percent, telecommunications 35.4 percent, data hosting and web portals 11.6 percent, software publishing 6.2 percent, and computer and telecom equipment repair 3 percent.

Small businesses produced 381,468.9 billion soums in GVA, accounting for 49.6 percent of total value added. Their contributions by sector were 28.6 percent in agriculture, 14 percent in industry, 11.9 percent in construction, and 45.5 percent in services. The share of small business within each sector reached 97 percent in agriculture, 79.4 percent in construction, 43.9 percent in services, and 26.1 percent in industry.

The non-observed economy, which includes household activities and the shadow sector, totaled 265,540.7 billion soums, or 32.9 percent of GDP. Of this, household and individual activities accounted for 201,281.3 billion soums (24.9 percent of GDP), while the shadow economy contributed 64,259.5 billion soums (8 percent). The bulk of the non-observed economy was concentrated in agriculture (75.1 percent), construction (35.9 percent), services (35.2 percent), and industry (10.5 percent).
