Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee Awarded UNDP “Silver Gender Equality Seal”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan was officially awarded the prestigious United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) “Silver Gender Equality Seal” (Gender Equality Seal) in a formal ceremony today.

Notably, Uzbekistan became the first country among the CIS and Central Asian states to achieve this recognition.

Experts view this international acknowledgment as a tangible result of the systematic reforms that the country has been implementing to promote gender equality and inclusive public administration.

The “Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions” program, launched in October 2022 and implemented jointly with UNDP and partner organizations, aims to support the adoption of gender-sensitive management practices, improve human resource policies, and strengthen the institutional capacity of government bodies.

Under the program, the Customs Committee modernized its internal regulations and HR procedures and carried out institutional reforms. Specifically, the number of female employees doubled, and the number of women included in the leadership talent pool tripled. A gender affairs specialist position was established, internal documents on gender analysis and gender-responsive budgeting were approved, and additional measures were introduced to enhance the professional and managerial potential of women.

The awarding of the “Silver Gender Equality Seal” confirms the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s policies on equal opportunities and demonstrates the country’s commitment to international standards of gender equality.
