Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee Warns Restaurants and Cafes Against Hidden Charges

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Competition Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan has issued a warning to all food service establishments regarding the prohibition of hidden charges for customers.

Consumer complaints have noted that some restaurants and cafes impose additional service fees of up to 20% or require prepayments (deposits), which violates customer rights.

According to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 75, food service enterprises are classified as restaurants, bars, cafes, kitchens, buffets, and small kitchens. Each establishment is required to provide complete and accurate information about the type of service, pricing, service procedures, and any additional services.

The Law on Consumer Rights Protection prohibits forcing customers to pay for services not agreed upon in advance and requires quality and timely service.

The Committee urges businesses to comply with these requirements and warns of potential liability for violations. Consumers can report infringements of their rights via the short number 1159.
