Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee Orders YEROSTIGAZ to Refund 2.8 Billion Soums in Unjustified Payments to Consumers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Competition Committee of Uzbekistan has instructed YEROSTIGAZ to recalculate and refund approximately 2.8 billion soums in unjustified payments to end consumers.

The investigation was conducted by the Committee’s territorial office in Tashkent Region following a complaint from the joint-stock company Angren Thermal Power Plant in the city of Angren.

The audit revealed that in February 2024, instead of the established tariff of 135,969 soums, YEROSTIGAZ applied an inflated rate of 265,536 soums, resulting in the unlawful collection of over 1.8 billion soums.

During the first 12 days of March, the company received an additional approximately 1 billion soums in unjustified payments, bringing the total violation amount to nearly 2.8 billion soums.

In response to these findings, the territorial office of the Committee initiated a case against YEROSTIGAZ under the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Competition” and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 239, with the subsequent imposition of a financial penalty.

The company has been ordered to correct the violations, implement measures to prevent recurrence, and recalculate and return all undue payments to end consumers.

The case is currently under judicial review.
