Uzbekistan’s Child Rights Commissioner Discusses Anti-Trafficking and Child Protection Measures with OSCE
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A working meeting was held in Uzbekistan between the Child Rights Commissioner and a delegation from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), led by Keri Johnston, Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking.
At the start of the meeting, Child Rights Commissioner Surayo Rakhmonova briefed the guests on the country’s systematic efforts to prevent human trafficking, including issues related to the trafficking of children.
Existing mechanisms for protection and prevention were presented, along with the specific approaches used when working with children at risk.
Keri Johnston noted that Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms in combating human trafficking are commendable. She emphasized that national legislation imposes strict measures against various forms of child exploitation, that a preventive system for vulnerable children has been established, and that an independent Child Rights Commissioner institution has been implemented.
During the dialogue, both sides agreed to jointly implement practical projects aimed at protecting children from online exploitation and other forms of violence, as well as to cooperate on other key initiatives within the framework of OSCE collaboration.
