Uzbekistan’s auto industry plans to assemble its cars in Russia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The automobile industry of Uzbekistan is developing a project for large-block assembly in the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia in the Russian Federation Atlas compact cars, known in Uzbekistan, as Spark. This was told to TASS by the Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat Bakhtiyor Umurzakov.

"At present, the bilateral working group is working on a feasibility study for Karachay-Cherkessia, we are trying to calculate so that the project pays off, and the cars produced there are competitive and affordable," said Umurzakov on the sidelines of the international forum "Localization- 2019 "in Tashkent, carried out in order to deepen the localization of processes associated with industrial production.

According to the head of Uzavtosanoat, so far we are only talking about the Spark model, which will be produced under the Atlas brand. “If permission is given to manufacture other models, we will work on them,” he said.

It is expected that the first Atlas cars will be assembled in Russia in the first quarter of next year. "After the feasibility study is prepared, it will be necessary to obtain permission from General Motors, whose representatives must make sure that the conditions of Karachay-Cherkessia are adequate for high-quality large-block assembly," Umurzakov specified.
