Uzbekistan Wins the Al Ain International Cup, Defeating Iran in a Penalty Shootout

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s national football team claimed victory at the Al Ain International Cup in the UAE, defeating Iran in a penalty shootout. Regular time in the final ended goalless at 0–0.

In the 68th minute, national team defender and Manchester City player Abdukodir Khusanov was sent off for stopping an opponent’s attacking play. Following the red card, the Iranian team created several dangerous chances but failed to convert them.

In the penalty shootout, the Uzbek players were more composed, securing a 4–3 win and lifting the tournament trophy.
