Uzbekistan wins first place in team standing at Mendeleev Olympiad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of Uzbekistan, winning two gold, five silver and 8 bronze medals, secured the first place in team standing at the 47th Mendeleev Olympiad in chemistry.

Each team of the 17 participating countries of this intellectual marathon - Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan – have fought hard to become winners of this prestigious international competition and gain admission to prestigious universities, UzA reported.

The awards ceremony took place at the Tashkent branch of the Moscow state university named after M.Lomonosov. Highly assessing the organisation of the olympiad, the dean of the faculty of chemistry of the Moscow state university, academician Valery Lunin expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the country for conditions, created to each participant of the olympiad and noted that a great attention is paid to education of the youth in Uzbekistan.

The 47th international Mendeleev Olympiad in chemistry consisted of two theoretical and one experimental (practical) rounds, in which the participants could gain 230 points maximum.

The organisers also took care of cultural and entertainment activities for the young chemists- sightseeing tours to Samarkand and Tashkent, educational institutions of our country and concert tours were organised.

Representatives of Uzbekistan, having won 2 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals, secured the first place in team standing. Tams from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine followed Uzbekistan.
