Uzbekistan, WHO Discuss Expanding Healthcare Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Tamila Aliyeva, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, held talks on March 25 with Werner Obermeyer, Head of the New York Office of the World Health Organization, according to the Dunyo news agency.

During the meeting, the sides highly praised the reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, including the development of the healthcare system, the introduction of the “One Health” approach, and measures to combat non-communicable diseases.

The WHO representative reaffirmed the organization’s readiness to continue providing comprehensive support to Uzbekistan. This includes advancing primary healthcare, strengthening public health systems, combating non-communicable diseases, introducing mandatory health insurance, and promoting digitalization in the sector.

Special attention was also given to international cooperation in pediatric oncology, rare diseases, and mental health, as well as to the outcomes of a recent international forum held in New York on these issues.

The importance of the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was emphasized, with both sides discussing initiatives to further expand collaboration in preparation for the visit.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening partnership and advancing joint healthcare projects.
