Uzbekistan–US Relations Reach New Level of Stability and Predictability, Says Presidential Adviser

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Abdulaziz Kamilov, Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy, stated in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 that relations between Uzbekistan and the United States have reached a new level of stability and predictability.

According to Kamilov, cooperation between the two countries has passed through two distinct stages. Prior to 2017, it was “not sufficiently stable” and largely focused on security issues and the situation in Afghanistan. “Regarding trade, economic, or investment cooperation, unfortunately, we did not achieve tangible results,” he acknowledged.

With the rise of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2017, a new phase of cooperation began. “The official visit of our president to Washington in 2018 marked the start of a new era of strategic partnership. This phase is characterized by a comprehensive agenda covering virtually all areas of interaction: politics, economy, humanitarian cooperation, education, and, of course, regional security issues,” Kamilov noted.

He emphasized that nearly all segments of the American elite, including political and business circles, recognize the beginning of this new stage. “The main outcome of the meetings between the two presidents, where strategic directions of our cooperation were discussed, is the transition of relations into a phase of stability and predictability,” he added.

The adviser also highlighted the global significance of Mirziyoyev’s initiatives presented at the UN General Assembly. “These proposals are directly tied to Uzbekistan’s vital national interests. They take on a global dimension, as many challenges and threats in the region can only be addressed at the international level,” he explained.

Kamilov stressed that the president pays particular attention to security, environmental issues, the Aral Sea, and youth-related challenges. “At the center of his focus is Uzbekistan—Uzbekistan and once again Uzbekistan,” the adviser concluded.
