Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Uzbek Embassy in Washington organized a video-conference call between the director of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) D. Austin and the chairman of the Uzbekbaliksanoat Association O. Musayev, at which they discussed prospects interaction between the two associations, as well as issues of implementing joint projects, Dunyo reported.
The talks were attended by deputy chairmen of the department and director of the Fisheries Research Institute of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Embassy of our country in Washington, as well as senior officials of the American Fisheries Society.
It is worth noting that AFS, formed in 1870, is the oldest and largest organization in the world in the fishing industry. Currently, it includes more than 8,000 members from 60 countries. AFS has 48 units in four regions of the USA: North-Central, Northeast, South and West. The organization also has two international offices - in Canada and Mexico.
During the negotiations, the American side provided information on the large-scale program for the development of the fishing industry in Uzbekistan, the activities of the Uzbekbaliksanoat Association established in 2017, fish enterprises and farms, including the Aydar-Arnasay aquasystem, and the production of more than 200 thousand tons of fish in 2019 . It was noted that, due to the geographical location and arid climate of Uzbekistan, fish farmers prefer to use an intensive method of growing fish that does not require the use of extensive water resources. In addition to local fish species, such as silver carp, grass carp, carp, asp, snakeheads, catfish and carp, tropical species such as African catfish, tilapia, trout, and Siberian sturgeon are also cultivated in the country.
The parties exchanged views on the use of modern technologies for fish farming, production of fodder base, processing and packaging of fish products, development of scientific and technical base and training of highly qualified specialists.
The leadership of “Uzbekbaliksanoat” turned to the American side with a proposal to consider the possibility of establishing partnerships in these areas.
In turn, . Austin expressed his readiness to help Uzbekbaliksanoat in finding and identifying potential partners among AFS members who are interested in cooperation with the Uzbek side and the implementation of joint projects.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached on signing a framework Agreement of cooperation between the two associations, which will strengthen partnerships, and will also serve as the foundation for starting cooperation in the fishing industry between Uzbekistan and the United States.
