Uzbekistan Uncovers Overseas Employment Fraud Schemes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek authorities have uncovered several cases of fraud involving promises of employment abroad, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office reported.
In the Sergeli district of Tashkent, a citizen, Sh. A., was detained for promising to arrange a “business visa” to the United States, claiming connections with alleged acquaintances in high positions. He was apprehended while receiving US$75,000.
A similar case occurred in the Khatirchi district, where the head of a private company, F. Sh., promised a citizen, J. B., a job in Bulgaria, assuring legal document processing. The individual was detained upon receiving US$3,000.
Criminal cases have been initiated under Articles 168 (fraud) and 211 via Article 28 (complicity in bribery) of the Criminal Code. Investigations are ongoing.
