Uzbekistan to vaccinate children against rotavirus infection
Rotavirus infection is the most spread reason for acute diarrhea among children. According to the World Health Organization, about 36% of children hospitalized with diarrhea are connected with rotavirus infection. The vaccination is the best way to prevent rotavirus diarrhea and death from it.
In line with the WHO, over 2 million people are hospitalized with rotavirus infection and about 500,000 people are dying from the virus.
In order to decrease sickness rate of population with acute enteric infections, Uzbekistan included vaccination of children at the age of 2-3 months against rotavirus infection to national vaccination calendar from June 2014.
It is planned that some 380,000 children will be vaccinated against rotavirus infection in 2014.
