Uzbekistan to strengthen role in Greater Eurasian Partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has significant potential to contribute to the development of the Greater Eurasian Partnership, including enhancing economic cooperation and strengthening continental security, said Mikhail Galuzin.
According to Galuzin, Moscow views Uzbekistan as a strategic partner and ally pursuing an independent and sovereign foreign policy. He highlighted that Uzbekistan participates in key international platforms, serving as an observer at the Eurasian Economic Union, and as a member of the CIS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Galuzin emphasized that Uzbekistan can play an important role in shaping a new architecture of international relations in Eurasia, particularly in the areas of economics and security. His remarks were made at a Russian-Uzbek conference organized by the Valdai Discussion Club in cooperation with the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies.
He also noted the alignment or close convergence of Moscow and Tashkent’s positions on key international issues. According to the diplomat, the two countries actively engage at respected international platforms, including the United Nations, promoting shared goals and approaches.
As an example, Galuzin cited Uzbekistan’s involvement in the development and support of UN resolutions proposed by Russia and its partners. This includes the annual UN General Assembly resolution aimed at countering the glorification of Nazism, which traditionally receives broad international backing.
