Uzbekistan to reduce area of rice fields

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will reduce the rice fields from 162,000 to 94,000 hectares in 2018. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

This decision was made in connection with the shortage of water due to a small amount of precipitation.

The head of Uzbekistan ordered to provide 7,500 hectares of land in Syrdarya region, which has no problems in water supply, to farmers of Khorezm region, and 5500 hectares in Jizzakh region - farmers of Karakalpakstan for growing rice as a re-culture.

In Kashkadarya (30 hectares), Samarkand (42 hectares), Bukhara (20 hectares), Navoi regions (14 ha) and Karakalpakstan (10 ha), where water shortage is expected, the areas for repeated crops will be reduced.

It is proposed to grow mung beans, kidney beans and other undemanding crops, including fodder crops, in these regions.
