Uzbekistan to Procure 23 Electric Trains for Suburban Routes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to significantly expand its suburban rail network by purchasing 23 electric trains to connect Tashkent with its surrounding metropolitan area.

Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov told Uzbekiston 24 that, under the president’s directive, large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented. The new rail lines across 23 routes will provide fast and comfortable connections between the capital, regional centers, and remote districts, enhancing mobility for residents who commute daily to major cities.

The first high-speed Hyundai Rotem electric trains from South Korea are expected to arrive in December and will operate on the Bukhara — Miskin — Urgench — Nukus route. In 2026, the first high-speed service on the Tashkent — Khiva line is planned to launch.

Additionally, as part of the railway network modernization, new electrified lines are planned for the Nurafshan — Pskent — Buka — Bekabad — Bayavut — Yangier and Khavast — Dashtabad routes, along with electrification of existing sections: Kumkurgan — Kudukli, Samarkand — Urgut, and Baytkurgan — Parkent.

The current 40 suburban routes will be expanded with 15 new lines, including Tashkent — Nurafshan — Akhangaran — Angren, Navoi — Zarafshan — Uchkuduk, Kagan — Namangan — Andijan — Margilan, Termez — Kumkurgan — Baysun — Darband, Nukus — Shavat — Urgench — Khiva, Jizzakh — Dustlik — Aidar-Arnasay, and Karshi — Shakhrisabz. The network expansion aims to ensure convenience and speed for passengers traveling within the region.
