Uzbekistan to Launch “Samarkand 2028” Satellite in May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The launch of the “Samarkand 2028” satellite, developed by the Chinese company StarVision, is scheduled for May 2026, officials announced at the Space Technology Conference 2026 in Tashkent.

The project is part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in space technologies. Last year, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing satellite solutions, implementing joint initiatives, and strengthening scientific and technical integration.

As a tangible outcome of the agreement, the Chinese hyperspectral satellite has been named “Samarkand 2028.” The satellite is expected to play a key role in joint projects and serve as a cornerstone of the technological partnership between the two nations.

The initiative is considered a significant milestone for the development of Uzbekistan’s space sector and the expansion of its international cooperation in aerospace technologies.
