Uzbekistan to Launch Platform for Legal Investments in Foreign Stocks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is planning to create a specialized platform that will allow citizens to legally invest in shares of foreign companies, the National Agency for Perspective Projects announced on 18 March.

Kamronbek Mukhamadiev, Head of the Department for E-Commerce Development and Regulation at the National Agency for Perspective Projects, noted that currently, citizens cannot directly purchase foreign shares.

Existing forex platforms and online trading services do not provide shareholder rights, such as voting or receiving dividends. “In other words, no one is actually buying shares of companies like Google or Apple through these platforms,” he emphasized.

Vyacheslav Pak, First Deputy Director of the National Agency for Perspective Projects, added that people currently transfer funds abroad through international payment systems, investing on unregulated platforms where their rights remain unprotected. “There is high demand, so it is necessary to create a transparent and regulated infrastructure,” he said.

According to Pak, the new platform will allow citizens to invest safely and earn passive income under official regulation.

It will also help retain capital within the country, reducing uncontrolled outflows. The National Agency for Perspective Projects estimates that around US$180 million has already been transferred abroad through dubious platforms.

Agency representatives also highlighted the risks of fraud on unregulated platforms, where citizens can fall victim to pyramid schemes and scams.

The creation of the official platform is aimed at protecting investors and developing investment instruments in Uzbekistan.
