Uzbekistan to launch new TV and radio channel

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will launch new educational TV and radio channel “Mahalla” (Neighborhood) from 1 January 2015. The new channel will broadcast in digital format.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on creation of new 24-hour digital channel on 17 December 2014.

New channel will inform population on role and importance of mahalla institution in formation democratic state and civil society, solving social issues, etc.

TV and radio channel “Mahalla” will be founded under National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan. It can employ 154 persons.

According to resolution, Ma’shal radio channel will be handed to new channel. Currently, the radio station belongs to TV and sport channel Sport.
