Uzbekistan to Increase Passenger Rail Transport on Local Routes by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution titled “On measures to increase passenger transportation indicators on local railway routes by 2030,” setting strategic goals for the development of domestic rail passenger services.

Under the resolution, by 2030 the annual volume of passenger traffic on local routes is expected to increase from 10.5 million to 23.5 million people. The number of routes with organized electric train services is set to grow from 40 to 53.

The Ministry of Transport and Uzbekistan Railways JSC have been tasked with implementing a range of measures. These include the launch of high-speed electric trains on the Tashkent–Urgench–Khiva route via the 465 km Bukhara–Khiva line, where electrification work has already been completed.

By the end of 2026, the 196 km Miskin–Nukus line will be electrified, followed by the introduction of high-speed services.

Modernization is also planned for the Angren–Pap and Tashguzar–Boysun–Kumkorgan railway sections, which will make it possible to introduce high-speed electric trains in the Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, and Surkhandarya regions by 2030.

These measures are intended to improve the quality of passenger transport, reduce travel times, and increase regional transport accessibility, reinforcing the role of railways in the country’s socio-economic development.
