Uzbekistan to Expand Access to Free Legal Aid for Low-Income Citizens
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved on first reading a draft law aimed at further improving the system of providing state-funded legal assistance to low-income citizens.
The document, titled “On the Provision of Legal Aid at the Expense of the State”, defines the categories of individuals eligible for such support.
Under the draft, the scope of beneficiaries will be expanded. In particular, low-income citizens will be able to seek assistance when filing complaints with the Constitutional Court regarding the conformity of laws applied to them with the Constitution.
During the session, it was emphasized that the new provisions are intended to broaden public access to constitutional justice, guarantee citizens’ right to qualified state-funded legal aid, and reinforce the principles of a social state.
