Uzbekistan to Establish Young Artists’ Center and Create New Opportunities for Creative Work

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed a draft resolution aimed at the comprehensive development of visual and applied arts as a vital element of national culture and the spiritual upbringing of youth.

During the presentation, it was noted that representatives of the art community have lacked sufficient support for many years. As a result, during an expanded session of the Republican Council on Spirituality and Enlightenment, the President issued instructions for a fundamental improvement in this area.

The project places particular emphasis on creating opportunities for young artists. A modern Young Artists’ Center will be constructed on the premises of the Art Foundation, featuring a gallery and 40 creative studios. A training and production workshop will be established at the Museum of Eastern Miniature, and the P. P. Benkov School of Painting will undergo major renovation. Additionally, a new academic building with a 400-student capacity and a dormitory for 200 students will be built.

The traditional mentorship system, “master–apprentice,” will receive state support. Artists working with youth will be encouraged, and the most talented young painters will be sent abroad annually to participate in educational and creative programs.

To improve the quality of art education, the Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Painting and Design will begin introducing advanced international curricula. Works by the institute’s faculty members that hold high artistic value will be recognized on par with academic monographs. Graduates of the institute will be granted the right to teach visual arts in general education schools.

To further stimulate creative activity, a mechanism for state support in producing themed art series will be introduced, including “Landscapes of New Uzbekistan,” “Great Thinkers,” and “Heroes of Our Time.”

The President emphasized the importance of improving conditions for artists across the country and actively engaging young people in visual and applied arts, particularly in the regions. Supporting talent and advancing art education will become a key component of the state's cultural policy.
