Uzbekistan to Chair CIS in 2027 — CIS Secretary-General

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2027, the CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev announced.

“We sincerely hope that in 2027 nothing will prevent Uzbekistan from taking the chairmanship and successfully fulfilling this role,” he stated.

According to Lebedev, Uzbekistan has taken an active and proactive position within the Commonwealth in recent years. He recalled that in April 2025, the CIS Economic Council held a session in Tashkent, coinciding with the ‘Innoprom. Central Asia’ exhibition and the Regional Forum, noting that the country has regularly served as a venue for major international events.

“Uzbekistan provides excellent conditions for organizing conferences and forums — both in Tashkent and Samarkand. Soon, a conference co-organized with UNESCO will take place there, and many representatives from CIS countries have already confirmed their participation,” added the CIS Executive Committee head.

Sergey Lebedev expressed satisfaction with Uzbekistan’s active contribution to the development of integration processes and wished the country peace, prosperity, and continued success within CIS cooperation.
