Uzbekistan to ban import of iodine-free salt

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to introduce a ban to import iodine-free table salt.

Till the end of 2014, Uzbekistan is planning to develop a draft law “On introduction of changes and amendments to the law of Uzbekistan “On preventing iodine deficit diseases”.

The draft law will be developed within the implementation of the state programme “The Year of Healthy Children”. As reported earlier, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved the state programme “The Year of Healthy Children” with his resolution from 19 February 2014.

According to the programme, the norms on mandatory enrichment of table salt, produced in Uzbekistan and imported to the country, with iodine will be introduced to the law “On preventing iodine deficit diseases”.

The law of Uzbekistan “On preventing iodine deficit diseases” came into force on 4 May 2007.

According to article 15 of the law, the table salt, produced and realized in Uzbekistan, should undergo mandatory iodinization.
