Uzbekistan to Allow Speeds of Up to 150 km/h on Toll Roads
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Drivers in Uzbekistan will be allowed to travel at speeds of up to 150 km/h on toll roads. The announcement was made by Hasan Umarov, Chief Legal Adviser of the Committee for Automobile Roads under the Ministry of Transport, in an interview with the YouTube channel of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The main requirement for toll highways is to ensure the possibility of high-speed travel, along with the necessary service infrastructure such as rest areas, parking lots, and fuel stations.
The maximum speed limit on toll roads will be higher than on regular roads, where the current limit is 90 km/h. Once the Law on Highways comes into effect, corresponding amendments will be introduced to the traffic regulations. Fines for speeding will remain the same as those on public roads.
Some toll routes are expected to include separate lanes for passenger and freight vehicles to improve safety and reduce overtaking risks.
Toll roads will be designed for uninterrupted traffic flow: intersections with other highways will be constructed at different levels using overpasses and bridges, eliminating traffic lights and crossroads, and thereby reducing the likelihood of congestion.
