Uzbekistan Tightens Penalties for Illegal Waste Removal

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has adopted amendments and additions to a number of regulatory legal acts aimed at strengthening liability for environmental violations, including the illegal removal of waste from designated collection sites.

Under the new provisions, legal entities engaged in certain types of activities are assigned additional obligations to monitor sources of environmental pollution.

In particular, liability has been introduced for failure to submit, incomplete submission, or the provision of inaccurate information to the unified geoinformation database of the state environmental monitoring system.

Enterprises classified under Categories I and II of environmental impact will face fines ranging from 100 to 300 base calculation units.

Penalties have also been tightened for the illegal allocation and use of forest fund land, particularly in cases where such violations are repeated after administrative sanctions have already been imposed.

In such cases, fines ranging from 300 to 400 sizes of basic estiamted value are предусмотрены, along with possible restrictions of liberty for a period of two to three years or imprisonment for up to three years.

Additionally, administrative liability has been introduced for environmental violations recorded באמצעות automated photo and video systems.

Separate sanctions have also been established for the illegal collection and removal of waste both from designated accumulation sites and from unguarded facilities.
