Uzbekistan takes part at the international law forum in Moscow

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The National Center for Human Rights represented Uzbekistan at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Russian Association of International Law, held in Moscow on 27-29 January 2020.

The theme of the conference was “75 years of the Great Victory and the development of modern international law”.

At the opening of the forum, its participants on behalf of Uzbek international lawyers were welcomed by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, academician Akmal Saidov. He noted that the topic of speeches and meetings of the forum is a confirmation of the role and significance of international law in the modern, increasingly localized world.

- Without law, there is no sustainable development, democracy and human rights. This axiom of modern society has been repeatedly proved by the history of the development of mankind. That is why the academic scientific community should be the vanguard in the process of the dynamic development of modern international law, said the head of the NCHR.

In his speech, he emphasized that relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation are consistently developing in all areas, including in the field of human rights. This is a lot of evidence, including the signing in January 2019 of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as in April 2019, a similar document with the Presidential Council for Development civil society and human rights.

Saidov, speaking about the topics of the forum, noted that the 75th anniversary of the victory of mankind over fascism will be widely celebrated in Uzbekistan. Extensive work is being carried out to perpetuate the heroism and resilience of our people during the war years through the art of cinema, theater, in fiction and journalistic works, as well as the organization of scientific research, bringing to the public, especially youth, the enduring significance of the great feat of our fathers and grandfathers. A new Victory Park is being built in Tashkent.

- Our peoples fought shoulder to shoulder with fascism, and together with other nations made a decisive contribution to freeing the world from the horrors of the brown plague. In total, more than 1.5 million sons and daughters of Uzbekistan fought for peace and freedom in this bloody war, every third of them did not return home to their relatives and friends. Our people will never forget their feat, as well as the dedication of those who worked in the rear, ”said the director of the NCHR.

It was also noted that the international legal order established after World War II is based on global legal obligations, which are the cornerstone of peace and security, laying the foundation for the modern architecture of international law, including the creation of the UN. It is no accident that, in the year of its 75th anniversary, the United Nations begins a global discussion of the role of full cooperation in building the future.

In the framework of the UN-75 initiative, Uzbekistan plans in May 2020 to hold the Samarkand Human Rights Forum on youth rights, a large-scale event to discuss the important and positive role of youth in sustainable development, preventing crises and ensuring gender equality, realizing human rights and building a culture of peace.
