Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 31 March to 5 April, an Uzbek delegation, including representatives from the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, the National Agency for Social Protection, and the Ministry of Justice, conducted a study visit to the European Food Banks Federation in Brussels.

The primary objective of the trip was to examine international best practices for organizing food banks, managing surplus food products, and ensuring their targeted distribution to those in need.

Participants discussed the organizational and legal frameworks governing food bank operations, logistics, storage requirements, and methods for collaborating with donors—including manufacturers, retail chains, and catering enterprises. Significant focus was placed on the implementation of volunteer support systems based on European standards.

During the visit, the delegation also studied the role of food banks in ensuring food security, reducing food waste, and supporting socially vulnerable segments of the population within the European Union.

Following the meetings, the parties exchanged views on the phased introduction of a food bank system in Uzbekistan. This includes improving the regulatory framework, integrating operations with the "Social Protection Registry," and expanding international cooperation.

The results of the visit are expected to contribute to enhanced support measures for vulnerable citizens, the rational use of food resources, and the further reduction of poverty across the country.
