Uzbekistan Strengthens Intellectual Property Protection with New Digital Measures

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a set of measures aimed at enhancing intellectual property (IP) protection and introducing modern digital solutions in the sector.

The initiative is designed to accelerate procedures and expand tools for monitoring compliance with IP rights. By the end of 2027, authorities plan to register 100,000 IP objects and cut the examination period in half.

To achieve these goals, the IP management system will transition entirely to electronic document flow, with key processes augmented by artificial intelligence technologies. Bureaucratic barriers will be reduced, access to composite and proactive services expanded, and businesses will be more actively involved in combating counterfeit products based on citizen and company reports.

A unified digital platform, the “Intellectual Property Protection Portal,” will be created on the basis of the IP Protection and Industrial Property Protection portals. Through this platform, the Ministry of Justice will be able to receive applications, conduct AI-assisted examinations, and manage IP-related contracts.

The Ministry of Health will be required to verify IP compliance when issuing permits for the production or import of dietary supplements, relying on information from the new portal. The platform will also publish information on identified counterfeit goods and blocked pirate websites.

The Ministry of Justice and “Uzkomnazorat” are tasked with informing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) about websites restricted in Uzbekistan due to pirated content. This data will be published on the international WIPO Alert platform.
