Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has begun to restore the international airport in Mazar-i-Sharif. This was reported by TOLOnews with reference to the words of the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev.
According to Irgashev, Uzbekistan has sent 30 specialists to the airport in Balkh province. Experts will renovate the airport and train local specialists. More than 80 Afghan specialists will be trained in Uzbekistan.
Ismatulla Irgashev noted that Afghans can rely on his country for infrastructure issues.
Balkh Governor Qudratullah Hamza called for the development of economic cooperation between the two countries. He noted that a delegation from the Ministry of Transport visited the provinces and held talks on the reconstruction of the airport and the construction of the railway.
He also noted that negotiations were held on Afghanistan’s debt for electricity supplies. The governor stressed that Afghanistan will close the debt after the country’s banking system starts working. At the same time, he urged Uzbekistan not to stop the supply of electricity.
