Uzbekistan Signs Bilateral Market Access Protocol with EU as Part of WTO Accession Preparations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 15 December 2025, Uzbekistan officially signed a Bilateral Market Access Protocol with the European Union, marking a key milestone in the country’s path toward accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The signing ceremony was attended by Azizbek Urunov, the Presidential Representative for WTO Affairs and Chief Negotiator, and the EU Ambassador, João Aguiar Machado.
According to Azizbek Urunov, this achievement was made possible by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s historic visit to Brussels in October 2025, which provided strong political momentum and reinforced the shared commitment to deepen cooperation with the European Union.
The Protocol’s signing reflects constructive engagement and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU, opening new opportunities for integration into the multilateral trading system and strengthening the country’s export potential.
Azizbek Urunov emphasized that Uzbekistan remains fully committed to completing the WTO accession process and expressed gratitude to all colleagues and partners who contributed to this achievement, including the EU team led by Sabine Weyand and Tamás Majszák.
