Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s delegation participated in a high-level ministerial roundtable organized by the United Nations on “Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering All Older Women,” held in March in New York.

The delegation included Senate member Gulnara Marufova, Deputy Chair of the Supreme Court Malika Kalandarova, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Family and Women Mukarram Nurmatova, and Deputy Director of the National Human Rights Center Dilnoza Muratova.

The event provided a significant international platform to discuss modern approaches to ensuring the rights of elderly women and improving social and legal policies in this area.

During the discussions, participants addressed key challenges faced by older women, including age discrimination, limited access to healthcare and social services, and barriers to justice. Special attention was given to implementing gender-sensitive approaches within social protection and pension systems.

Deputy Chair of the Committee for Family and Women Mukarram Nurmatova delivered a presentation outlining comprehensive measures implemented in Uzbekistan to support elderly women. She highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen legal and institutional mechanisms for social protection, ensure adequate pension provision, and promote the participation of older women in social and economic life.

The Uzbek delegation also presented national initiatives aimed at removing existing barriers and reviewed leading international practices that could be adapted to the country’s context.

Uzbekistan’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to developing a comprehensive policy for protecting women’s rights across all age groups, enhancing the social and economic well-being of elderly women, and fostering international cooperation and best-practice exchange.

The meeting concluded with recognition that safeguarding the rights of elderly women is not only a matter of social justice but also a key factor in sustainable development and improving overall societal well-being.
