Uzbekistan Shares Gender Violence Prevention Experience
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 March, a parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Orzigul Kozikhonova, Chair of the Senate Committee on Youth, Women, Culture, and Sports, participated in an interparliamentary dialogue in Ashgabat focused on strengthening the legislative framework for gender equality and combating gender-based violence.
The event was organized by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and included representatives from international organizations and the parliaments of eight countries.
During the dialogue, the Uzbek delegation shared the country’s national experience in improving legislation and institutional mechanisms for protecting women’s rights, with particular attention to preventing and combating violence.
Special focus was given to contemporary challenges, including cyberbullying, online threats, and psychological pressure. The delegation emphasized the need for continued adaptation of legal norms, broader use of digital protection tools, and strengthening the role of parliaments in this area.
Uzbek representatives also highlighted comprehensive reforms underway to enhance systems for protecting women and children, develop social support mechanisms, and improve inter-agency cooperation to prevent violence.
The outcomes of the meeting contribute to experience-sharing and the development of joint solutions aimed at increasing the effectiveness of legislation and practical measures for protecting women’s and children’s rights at the regional level.
