Uzbekistan Sets Exceptional Grounds for Issuing Foreign Passports to Readmitted Citizens

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has approved a procedure for issuing biometric foreign passports in exceptional cases to citizens readmitted from abroad.

The Ministry of Justice has registered the instruction “On the Procedure for Issuing Biometric Passports for Travel Abroad to Citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan Readmitted from Foreign States in Exceptional Cases.”

According to the document, information about readmitted citizens will be entered by the Department of Migration and Personalization into the “Passport-Visa” information system.

In exceptional situations, such citizens may be granted a foreign passport. Grounds for this include the death of a close relative abroad, the need for specialized medical treatment or surgery overseas for the citizen or a close relative, participation in international olympiads, educational programs or sporting competitions, residence in border areas or enclave territories of Uzbekistan, as well as the execution of documents and instructions from the President, the Cabinet of Ministers, or the Head of the Presidential Administration.

To obtain a passport under this special procedure, citizens must apply to the Department of Migration and Personalization or its regional offices.
