Uzbekistan Senate Hosts Regional Dialogue on Circular Economy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the European Union’s SWITCH-Asia program and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), organized the third regional dialogue titled "Scaling up the Circular Economy in Central Asia through Business Leadership, Innovation, and Investment."
The event brought together members of the Senate, representatives from Central Asian parliaments, heads of ministries and agencies, experts from the EU and CAREC, as well as representatives from international organizations and industry specialists.
Participants discussed the further implementation of circular economy principles at the national level and emphasized the role of parliaments in establishing effective long-term environmental governance and developing direct regional partnerships.
Particular attention was paid to refining legislative initiatives, expanding cooperation between the public and private sectors, implementing innovations, and attracting investments. Discussions also focused on the rational use of resources and the reduction of waste volumes.
Senators highlighted the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary and institutional cooperation in the region, increase the responsibility of legislative bodies in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and bolster economic stability through circular economic models.
At the conclusion of the dialogue, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continued joint work on implementing innovative approaches and attracting investments for the sustainable development of Central Asia.
