Uzbekistan Refines Procedure for Leasing Agricultural Land

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Government of Uzbekistan has introduced amendments and additions to the Cabinet of Ministers’ Resolution No. 709 of 24 November 2021, “On Approving Regulatory Legal Acts on the Procedure for Leasing Agricultural Land Plots.”

The decision aims to improve the mechanisms for leasing and subleasing agricultural land, as well as to ensure the rational and efficient use of land resources.

Under the amendments, the area of agricultural land plots retained by the lessee and transferred for sublease must not be smaller than the minimum sizes established by Article 46¹ of the Land Code.

The regulations also clarify the procedure for partial subleasing. In particular, the distribution of land between the lessee and sublessee must be carried out by redistributing individual plots while maintaining their integrity on the agricultural map and taking into account the existing irrigation system.

Additionally, when partially transferring a land plot for sublease, the parties are required to use state services for dividing agricultural land and establishing new plot boundaries.

These changes are expected to increase transparency in land relations, reduce the risk of disputes between lessees and sublessees, and promote more efficient use of agricultural land.
