Uzbekistan Receives First Shipment of Elite Potato Seeds from Netherlands
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has received the first batch of elite seed potatoes imported from the Netherlands, part of a larger plan to strengthen the country's seed production and food security, according to an announcement.
The current delivery is the first part of a total volume of 6,000 tons of certified seed potatoes being imported from leading foreign companies for the 2026 planting season. This importation effort is mandated by a Presidential resolution issued on 8 September, which focuses on "additional measures to increase potato production and further develop seed production in the republic."
The seed supply contract was signed between Bulung'ur – Agro Star (established by Uzagrostar Holding), Turon Bank, and the Dutch company Agriko Co LTD.
The imported planting material will be distributed at cost to local dehkhan (peasant) farms, commercial farms, and private household plot owners. These seeds are designated for both the spring planting campaign and for securing a second harvest during the year.
Authorities expect this measure to positively affect the cost price of potatoes grown domestically and strengthen national food security.
