Uzbekistan Proposes Rewarding Citizens for Reporting Substandard Products

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to introduce a system of financial incentives for citizens who help identify substandard or potentially hazardous products.

This provision is outlined in the draft law “On Market Supervision”, which was released for public discussion on 21 August.

According to the draft, the Cabinet of Ministers must approve the procedure for payments to citizens reporting violations within four months. The law also provides compensation for those affected by substandard products.

In cases of death, compensation will amount to at least the full material damage; in cases of disability, at least half of that amount; and in cases of other health harm, at least one-fifth.

The draft law envisages strengthened control over product safety. Supervision will be carried out through test purchases, expert evaluations, analysis of complaints, and verification of compliance with established standards.

When violations are detected, products must be withdrawn from the market within no more than 15 working days.

Public discussion of the draft will continue until 5 September. If approved by parliament and signed by the head of state, the law will come into force on 1 July 2026.
