Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan has proposed introducing an excise tax on potato chips.
According to the draft budget message for 2026, starting from 1 April 2026, the excise will amount to 15,000 soums per kilogram of the finished product.
The tax will be payable by legal entities that produce potato chips, as well as companies importing them into the country.
The ministry noted that the initiative was developed in line with World Health Organization recommendations to reduce obesity and proposals from the Ministry of Health to promote healthy nutrition.
