Uzbekistan Prepares Large-Scale Electrification of Apartment Buildings and Heating Systems
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan is implementing a comprehensive set of measures aimed at improving energy consumption practices and increasing the share of renewable energy sources. The focus is on the rational use of limited energy resources and the gradual transformation of the country’s energy supply system.
Global experience demonstrates the effectiveness of full decarbonization of energy consumption: countries such as Belarus, China, and several European nations have implemented “Zero Carbon – Eco Home” construction practices with complete electrification.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Uzbekistan has prepared well-grounded proposals for applying similar approaches. These include full electrification of newly constructed apartment buildings, equipping them with electric stoves for cooking, converting heating systems to electricity, and introducing preferential electricity tariffs for apartment buildings, dormitories, and private houses in both gasified and non-gasified areas.
Under the proposed plan, household consumers in electrified buildings may receive discounts of up to 50% on existing electricity tariffs, depending on consumption volume: up to 2,000 kWh during the heating season and up to 1,000 kWh outside the heating season. These proposals have been coordinated through interagency discussions.
A technical audit of existing electrical networks is currently underway to assess their capacity to handle additional loads. Further studies are being conducted by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Investment Development, the State Enterprise “Uzenergoinspection,” JSC “NET,” and JSC “KVT.”
Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov emphasized that the preparation and implementation of these proposals is a strategically important process requiring careful analysis and phased execution. Based on the results of calculations and the technical audit, a comprehensive conclusion will be drawn, after which practical implementation of the measures will begin.
The ministry urges the public to objectively assess the progress of reforms, rely on official data, and avoid spreading unsubstantiated judgments, given the complexity and responsibility involved in transforming the country’s energy system.
