Uzbekistan Plans to Transport 3.25 Million Passengers on High-Speed Trains by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the updated Uzbekistan–2030 Strategy, submitted for public discussion on the System for Assessing the Impact of Legislative Acts (SOVAZ) platform, Uzbekistan plans to significantly increase passenger traffic on high-speed trains, reaching 3.25 million passengers by 2030.

The development of railway infrastructure is identified as one of the strategy’s priority areas.

In 2026, high-speed lines are expected to transport 1.5 million passengers, in 2027 — 2 million, in 2028 — 2.5 million, in 2029 — 2.75 million, and by 2030, the figure will reach 3.25 million.

A key aspect of the railway modernization program is the electrification of the network. In 2026, electrified tracks will account for 53.7% of the total, rising to 55% in 2027, 57.3% in 2028, 60% in 2029, and reaching 65% by 2030.

The strategy also includes accelerating freight transport along the key Samarkand–Karakalpakstan route. Average delivery times are expected to be nine days in 2026, eight days in 2027 and 2028, seven days in 2029, and reduced to six days by 2030.
