Uzbekistan Plans to Tighten Penalties for Unauthorized Wearing of Official and Military Uniforms

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is considering tougher penalties for the unauthorized wearing of uniforms belonging to ministries, agencies, and organizations, as well as for clothing that imitates military or official uniforms. A draft proposal has been submitted for discussion.

The draft suggests amendments to Article 209-1 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, which regulates the illegal wearing of official uniforms.

According to the document, individuals caught wearing approved military, official, or special uniforms, or clothing bearing distinctive insignia and symbols of ministries and organizations, could face a fine ranging from 2 to 5 sizes of basic estimated value (824,000 to 2,060,000 Uzbek soums) along with confiscation of the clothing.

For the circulation or use of clothing whose color, fabric, cut, insignia, or other elements replicate or imitate the uniforms of ministry or agency staff, a stricter penalty is proposed: a fine of 5 to 10 sizes of basic estimated value (2,060,000 to 4,120,000 Uzbek soums) with confiscation of the clothing.
