Uzbekistan Plans to Increase International Internet Capacity to 5,000 Gbit/s

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has set ambitious goals for the development of its digital infrastructure and IT sector as part of the updated Uzbekistan–2030 Strategy, submitted for public discussion on the System for Assessing the Impact of Legislative Acts (SOVAZ) platform.

According to the strategy, the country aims to increase its international internet capacity to 5,000 Gbit/s by 2030, gradually growing from 4,500 Gbit/s in 2026. At the same time, the coverage of fiber-optic lines and broadband networks will expand from 98.2% to 99.9%.

The speed of low-bandwidth internet service plans is expected to increase tenfold, from 13 Mbit/s in 2026 to 20 Mbit/s by 2030.

The annual growth rate of the telecommunications sector is projected to rise from 9.2% to 15%, while the ICT Development Index will increase from 87 to 94 points.

Exports of digital services are planned to grow from US$1 billion in 2026 to US$5 billion by 2030.

A key driver of the sector’s development will be the Uzbekistan IT Park. The number of its resident companies will increase from 3,500 to 7,500, with their contribution to the country’s GDP reaching 1.5%.

The share of exporting residents will rise from 28% to 40%, creating 100,000 new jobs. The number of foreign-invested company offices within the IT Park will grow from 850 to 1,000, with foreign companies accounting for over 35% of the total.

The startup support program aims to produce the country’s first national “unicorn” valued at US$1 billion by 2027 and to develop over 2,000 startups through incubation and acceleration programs by 2030.

In the field of artificial intelligence, Uzbekistan plans to train 5 million specialists and achieve 50th place in the Government AI Readiness Index.

The strategy also envisions full mobile internet coverage along international highways, increasing from 96% in 2026 to 100% by 2030.
