Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Approving the Concept of Conducting a Population Census in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2022” from 5 February 2019 serves as the legal basis. Based on this decree, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the census of the population” was developed and adopted.

The law consists of five chapters, 31 articles. It reveals the goals of the law, the basic concepts, tasks and principles of the census. It is enshrined as one of the principles that the census is carried out at least once every ten years and that the decision to conduct the census is made by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Another important principle is the confidentiality of personal data. It is indicated that they are not subject to disclosure and distribution without the consent of the respondent.

The first census in Uzbekistan was carried out in 1897. Then such an event took place in 1926, 1939, 1959, 1970, 1980. The last time the census was conducted in 1989, and then the population of the republic was 19.7 million people.

After 1989, there has never been a census in Uzbekistan. Therefore, many demographic problems have accumulated. Difficulties arose in studying the actual level and way of life of people, in assisting them.

What will the census in Uzbekistan give? First of all, detailed information will be collected on the exact population, age, gender, marital status, citizenship and national composition of the inhabitants (for all settlements), their education, profession, sources of income, labor resources, employment and unemployment.
