Uzbekistan plans to build a new highway Tashkent-Andijan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The World Bank’s Global Infrastructure Fund (GIF) provided a research grant for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan highway. It was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Finance.

On 10 May 2019, a meeting with representatives of the World Bank (WB) on private-public partnership projects in the field of road transport was held at the Agency for the Development of Public-Private Partnerships under the Ministry of Finance.

In accordance with the Presidential resolution "On measures to further improve the mechanisms for attracting foreign direct investment in the Republic of Uzbekistan," the agency approved promising projects for 2019. Currently, more than 10 of them for a total of US$2 billion are under development.

Jointly with the WB, large-scale measures have been started in the automobile and transport system; a project is being prepared for the construction of a new highway Tashkent-Andijan. The World Bank’s Global Infrastructure Fund (GIF) has provided a research grant for the latter.

WB experts on road construction that arrived in Uzbekistan will hold meetings in relevant ministries and study areas in Tashkent, Namangan, Ferghana and Andijan regions on 10-16 May.

At the current negotiations, representatives of the agency and the World Bank discussed a program of public-private partnership in the field of transport, specialized projects, studies and PPP options that can be used in specific cases.

It was noted that the implementation of these initiatives will be a powerful stimulus for economic growth, along with attracting foreign investment and tourists, increasing foreign exchange earnings.

In addition, the construction of roads will lead to an increase in regional trade, reducing time and financial costs for entrepreneurs. The implementation of the aforementioned decree of the President and the Law “On Public-Private Partnership” will help increase the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.
